Sommers - Madeline. On October 6, 2022, Madeline "Madge" Sommers, age 99, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and great aunt, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. Madge was born in Brooklyn, NY, on April 17, 1923, to Herbert and Madeline McIlroy. She was the third of three sisters, along with Helen and Edith. A one-time Mrs. Levittown, Madge married Bill Sommers, a former MLB player for the St. Louis Browns, in 1948. They resided in Levittown and Massapequa, NY, before settling in Palm City, FL, in the 1980's. Madge was an avid golfer, traveler, and prayer warrior, praying the rosary at bedtime each night. She was known as a compassionate, lively, and generous soul. She loved spending time with her family and friends. To know her was to love her. Her caring smiling was infectious and she always made others feel welcomed and special. She inspired people with her deep faith in God and truly appreciated every day she had here. To those closest to her, she was a constant source of courage and resilience. Madge could take any negative situation and make it positive with her quick-wit and optimism. She touched many lives with her encouragement and her passion for living. Proud of her Irish heritage, she now rests joyfully in peace with the Lord. She will be missed every day. A memorial service will be held at Moloney Funeral Home (1320 Lakeland Avenue Bohemia, NY) on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass Holy Redeemer Church, FL.
