On October 7, 1780 the foundation that would forever change the world was established. Fewer than one thousand American Heroes, through skill, luck, and the leadership of cunning strategists, defeated Patrick Ferguson, a brilliant star of the British military might. Andrew Edwards was one of those Heroes.

His participation in the Battle of Kings Mountain was documented in R3262, the Application for Revolutionary War Pension that his son, Thomas, submitted. The application was transcribed by Will Graves.

(Parenthetically, historians, genealogists, and descendants owe thanks to Will Graves for his hours spent transcribing the pension applications of American Revolution veterans. These papers were fragile and difficult to read, so this was a most difficult task, but so many people benefit from his efforts. Thank you, Will Graves.)

On this the 10th day of June A.D. 1851 Personally appeared before me M. P. Evins a magistrate of the aforesaid State Nancy Bradley resident of the aforesaid State and District (who is aged 84 years) being duly sworn according to law, saith on her oath, that Andrew Edwards and Phebe Meador her sister were married in Virginia Cumberland County to the best of her knowledge in the year 1778.

Served before and after his marriage, thinks he entered into the regular Army at or about the beginning of the war and that he served out the same, that he did serve in this State (So.Ca.) Knows that he was absent as was always said in the Service of his Country, from his home and his own State for a considerable time and thinks it was about the close of the war of the Revolution -- Obadiah Hubbard & David Winneford as she thinks went about the same time, returned from the service and died at home before the termination of the war --

She knows that Andrew Edwards always claimed to be a soldier of the Revolution that he was so by Universal reputation -- never heard it controverted and got any person and that he resided several of the last years of his life as her neighbor, and a neighbor to several of his revolutionary compatriots. She thinks that Andrew Edwards has been dead about 32 years.

Knows that Phebe, (the widow) of said Andrew remained a widow during her life and that she has been dead just 11 years this month;

Sworn and subscribed the day and date above written before me.
