SMSGT Sterling Palmer Bone entered the service on December 17, 1934:
He served in the Philippines with General McArthur he was his personal radioman on his private plane the "Bataan."
He also served as a "Coast Watcher" in the Philippines.
He was also a gunner has well as a radio man on McArthur's plane while McArthur was in Australia.
There is a photo posted here of Grandpa at the nose of "Bataan" itself along with 2 other crewman. The patch on his flight jacket shows he was a member of the Fifth Army Air Force/Corp at that time.
He also served in Texas as well as Roswell, NM at the time they were supposed to have found an alien ship crashed, now known as Area 51. He was said to have actually seen it, but due to orders was told to never talked about what he had seen. He also quit flying at that time and suffered with severe headaches.
During the War, SMSGT Sterling Palmer Bone was wounded and received medals.
SMSGT Sterling Palmer Bone retired from the US Air Force November 1st, 1967 after 33 years of service, at Williams Air Force Base, Chandler, Az. His retirement ceremony was held on October 31, 1967.
Sterling was Married to Ceola Nadine Wallace/Bone
He had three daughters:
Louis Bone/Walker
Elizabeth Bone/Holmes
Opal Jacquelyn Bone/Fox
Several grandchildren and great grandchildren
