LONE GROVE Services for Walter Douglas Grounds, 84, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Morgan Ashworth and pastor Jim Duck officiating. Interment will be at McAlister Cemetery, Overbrook.

Born on May 21, 1923 in Ardmore, he passed away there on Feb. 7, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parent, siblings, a granddaughter and great-granddaughter.

He and Faye Elmore were married on Sept. 14, 1946, in Texas.

A lifetime resident of the Ardmore area, he served in the army during World War II, from January 1943 to December 1945. During his military service he was baptized in a stream near New Guinea on Aug. 27, 1944.

After the war he worked for Doc Vernon at the Ardmore Animal Hospital. Later Doug was employed and retired from Noble Foundation.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Dean Plank and daughter, Brenda Epperson, all Ardmore; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Cecil Johnson, and Janet and Bill Cross, all Lone Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Jeff Vaile, Springer; daughter and son-in-law, Sondra and Ed Henderson, Dallas; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Bearers are Tarl Plank, Gregg Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Jeffery Paul Vaile, Vince Volino and David Brown.

A time of support and visitation will be 6 to 7 this evening at the funeral home.
