Annie was a childhood friend of Willa Cather and the inspiration for Cather's novel "My Antonia."

Anna Sadilek was born on 16 March 1869, in Mžižovice, Ostředek, Bohemia (Czech Republic), to Francis Sadilek and Anna Rybnicekova. The family immigrated to the U.S. in 1880.

Anna married John Pavelka on 9 February 1896, in Red Cloud, Webster Co., Nebraska. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 6 daughters.

Anna died on 24 April 1955, in Bladen, Webster Co., Nebraska, at the age of 86, and was buried in Cloverton Cemetery in Bladen.
