Joe Woodrow Rochester, 89, resident of Belton, widower of Nancy Rochester, peacefully passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at his home. He received his heavenly reward and is now resting in the arms of Jesus.

Born in Travelers Rest, SC, he was the son of Conyers Rochester and Sallie Wells Rochester.

Joe served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a dedicated member of the Campbell Patriots Honor Guard. Joe was also an original member and the second chief of the North Greenville Volunteer Fire Department along with serving as the fire commissioner for the county.

Joe had a passion for fishing and after retirement became a fishing guide at Santee Cooper.

Joe was a member of Andersonville Baptist Church and he was a Mason and a Shriner.

Survivors include his children, Cindy Alumbaugh (Terry), Myra Ellison (Phil), Ricky Rochester (Libby), Stephanie Mason, and Stephen Rochester (Debra). He was also survived by his 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Jackie Brooks.

Joe was predeceased by a son in law, Joe B. Mason, Jr., and his siblings, James Rochester, Ellis Rochester, Leroy Rochester, Lewis Rochester, Hubert Rochester, Thomas "Tip" Rochester, Daisy Catalino, Lula Reeves, Mary Stillwell, Donnie Rochester.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Andersonville Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Bryan officiating. Burial will follow at M. J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

The family will have a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be members of the Campbell Patriots Honor Guard along with grandsons serving as honoraria.
