Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 30, 1915, in Hamlin to Eva and E.W. Johnson. After graduating from Sul Ross, he taught school for two years in Sylvester and Trent before going to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. He worked for the railroad for 34 years, retiring in 1976 at the age of 61. He was a member of Park Heights Baptist Church, later becoming The Heights, since 1950. He also belonged to Masonic Lodge 1260 and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Mason.
He was married to Melbe McHaney in 1940. They had four children and were happily married until her death in 1964. He then married the second love of his life, Syree Fox, and they were married until her death in 2006.
Our dad had a full and blessed life. He enjoyed gardening, watching ball games, his bulldogs, RVing and traveling. He was a very strong Christian.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by stepson Ronnie Fox and his brother Lewis Johnson.
He is survived by his sons Wally and wife Kay Johnson of Rankin and David Mack and wife Lynn Johnson of San Angelo; daughters Sandra and husband John Holmes of Brownwood, and Jan and husband Henri Adams of San Angelo; stepdaughter Kay and husband Bill Good; daughter-in-law Doris Fox; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother Leonard and wife Wanda Johnson of Hamlin.
