Peggy Whitehead, 79, died Friday, December 18, 2020 at her rural Lennox home, after battling cancer.

Peggy Ann Loe was born on February 4, 1941, at Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Art and Myrtle (Johnson) Loe. She grew up and attended school in Hooker, SD and then graduated from Viborg High School in 1959. She went on to attend Beadle College in Madison, SD.

On January 15, 1961 she was united in marriage to Eugene R. Whitehead in Viborg. The couple made their home south of Lennox. Her death ended a marriage union of nearly 60 years.

Peggy's passion was horses. She competed in many rodeos, horse shows and other competitions and had earned the SD Rodeo Association runner up title in 1966 and 1968 in barrel racing. Peggy and Gene hosted several rodeos, barrel races and horse shows at their home place. They also organized and hosted many cowboy mounted shooting competitions. They drove wagon trains all across South Dakota, as well as the parades of Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming The couple also presented their wagons in parades all over South Dakota. She also enjoyed her dogs. Most of all Peggy loved her family and was a devoted grandmother who attended all of her granddaughter's activities and events.

Besides her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by one brother, Rex, who was killed during WWII in France.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Eugene; one son Mike (Sandy) Whitehead, Lennox; granddaughters: Katelynd (Joe) Hendrickson, Lincoln, DE and Myra Whitehead, Lennox, as well as other relatives and friends.

Public services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 23 at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox with burial to follow in the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation, also at Dindot-Klusmann, with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
