Peter was born in 1856 in Scotland, the son of James Boyes and Caroline (Young) Boyes.
His parents had settled in French Canada, and he was married on July 31, 1872 in Three Rivers, Quebec to Isabella Boyes (1854-1929), (both had the same last name).
They came to moved south into the United States in 1881 and settled in Grand Forks County, North Dakota.
Peter was about 38 years old when he died in 1894 in Emerado, North Dakota, and although family tradition has his cause of death by diphtheria, his obituary in Grand Forks Herald lists the cause of death as typhoid fever.
