Taze Shepard passed away at his home on October 10, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Taze was born in Washington, DC to Admiral Tazewell Taylor Shepard, Jr. and Julianne Sparkman Shepard, both preceding him in death. Having a family with deep political roots, Taze spent his younger years in Washington, DC with his maternal grandparents, Senator John J. Sparkman and Ivo Sparkman, close by. He also spent many happy summers at his grandparents' Huntsville home. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Tazewell Taylor Shepard and Martha Webb Shepard of Mobile, Alabama.

Taze attended St. Albans School in Washington DC. and Eton College in Windsor, United Kingdom. He received a BA in History from Dartmouth College and earned his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Taze dedicated his life to his family, his profession and helping others. He is the immediate past president the Alabama State Bar Association. He was a member of the Board of Bar Commissioners where he served as vice-president. He chaired several committees and acted as Chair for the State Bar's Solo and Small Firms Section. In 2019, Taze received the State Volunteer of the Year Award from the Volunteer Lawyers Program in Alabama. In 2021 he was recognized with the Outstanding Service Award from the State Bar's Solo and Small Firm section. Taze was president of the Board of Lawyer Services in Alabama, providing free legal aid to low-income families. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Alabama Law Foundation and was a past president of the Huntsville Bar Association and Madison County Volunteer Lawyer Program. Taze was recently awarded the prestigious William D. Scruggs, Jr. Service to the Bar Award, 2022. Taze recently retired after serving for more than forty years as a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee for the Northern District of Alabama.

Taze was a member of the Committee of 100 and a graduate of Huntsville Leadership Class 25. He was appointed to serve on the Athens State University Board of Trustees and the Alabama Space Science Commission, as well as the Alabama Supercomputer Authority. He was an elected member of the Alabama State Board of Education from District Eight and served as president of the Board of Directors for The Schools Foundation for Huntsville and Madison County.

Taze was the founder of Sparkman Shepard, PC in Huntsville, where he practiced law for more than 40 years, most recently with his son and daughter-in-law, Ty and Sarah Shepard.

Taze was a member of First United Methodist Church of Huntsville, and Huntsville Rotary International.
