Retired Clarksburg Farmer Was 79
James B. Halsey, 79, for many
years a resident of the Clarksburg
community, died at ,7:05 a. m. Monday
in Memorial hospital here.
In declining health for over a
year, he had been in a serious
condition for the past week. He had
resided at a nursing home in
Greensburg, prior to entering the
hospital a week ago.
The son of James and Minerva
Hamilton Lowe Halsey, he was
born near Clarksburg on May 3,
1883. He was a descendant of
pioneer families of Fugit township.
Born on the Halsey homestead in
Fugit township, he engaged in
farming there for a number of
years. As a young man he was a
member of the Clarksburg Band,
which played many engagements
in this section of Indiana.
Mr. Halsey was a member of the
Clarksburg Christian church.
In 1906, he was married in
Franklin county to Edith C. Sherwood.
His wife preceded him in
death .on June 25, 1961.
The survivors include one daughter, Mrs.
Mary Evelyn Wickens, of Clearwater, Fla., wife
of Col. Paul N. Wickens, U. S.
Army, retired; a granddaughter,
Miss Joan Wickens, of Clearwater,
Fla.; and a niece, Mrs. Russell (Elizabeth) Kelsb, of Batesville., A brother, Carlos Halsey, died
at Batesville on Nov. 9, 1941. He
was also preceded in death by a
sister. Miss Mary Elizabeth Halsey,
who passed away on Jan. 19,
1944.
Funeral rites will be held in J.
H. Porter & Sons funeral home.
The time has been set tentatively
at 2 p. m. Wednesday. The daughter
is en route here from Florida.
The Rev. Russell Lieb, pastor of
the Clarksburg Christian church,
will officiate. Burial will be in
Carmel cemetery near Clarksburg.
Friends may call at the funeral
borne after the noon hour on
Tuesday
