Lonnie C. McGuire

Lonnie C. McGuire, 61, Mercerville community, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, in the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.

Born Nov. 30, 1946, in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Marvin and Edith Taylor McGuire. He was a patrolman for the Gallipolis Police Department and was a former Gallia County Deputy Sheriff. He was a member of the First Church of God in Gallipolis, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran where he served as a Sergeant in the military police and was a member of Gallipolis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4464, .

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy McGuire on June 2, 1990; an infant sister, Brenda Kay McGuire; three brothers, Norman McGuire, Ray McGuire and Franklin E. McGuire; sister-in-law, Fran Taylor; brother-in-law, Worthy Spurlock and a nephew, Ronnie Spurlock.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Darlene Qualls McGuire, whom he married June 3, 1971, in Point Pleasant, W. Va.; sisters, Hazel Spurlock, Circleville, Ohio, Dorothy (James) Walker, Gallipolis, Margie (Earl) Holley, Crown City and Marcella Moss, Proctorville; brothers, Glen (Juanita) McGuire, Gallipolis and Wayne McGuire, Crown City, sisters-in-law, Rosetta McGuire and Vicki McGuire, both of Crown City, Mary Thomas, Point Pleasant, Barb (Junior Gillespie) Wolfe, Point Pleasant, Melissa (Tom Curry) Patterson, Red House, W.Va., Vanessa (John) Lyons, Point Pleasant and Trish (Bobby) McCoy, Point Pleasant and a brother-in-law, J.D. Taylor, Gallipolis and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, in the First Church of God, State Route 141, Gallipolis, with Pastor Paul Voss officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be in the old Mercerville Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 until 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Cremeens Funeral Chapel. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Police Honor Guard will be members of the Gallipolis Police Department. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Service Funeral Detail Team.

Active casketbearers are: Jeff Boyer, Stoney Johnson, Joe Browning, Greg Frazier, Mike Fulks and Matt Champlin. Honorary casketbearers are: Clint Patterson, Roger Brandenberry, Robbie Jacks, J.D.
