Martin was a pioneer settler of Cedar county bringing with him his wife and five children from LaPorte county, IN. Martin was a Baptist preacher rought in oratory and established several new Light congregations in Ohio. From 26 July to 26 August 1813 Martin was a private in the War of 1812 in Renick's Mounted Reg't, Captain Bradshaw's Mounted Volunteers, Ohio Militia.
Martin married Catharine Simpson daughter of John Simpson 29 March 1808 at Ross county, Ohio, Peter Jackson JP officiating and married 2nd Ann Smith his housekeeper 16 February 1846 at Muscatine county, Iowa.
