Funeral service for Ella Mae Stevens will be Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 1 p.m. at St. Luke CME Church. Public viewing will be Friday August 18, 2017 from 1 until 7 p.m.

Ella Mae Stevens was a great. woman, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to many.

Ella was born December 10, 1954 in Thomasville, Georgia.

She was the daughter of the late Andrew Jay and Alberta Candace James.

Ella was educated in the Thomasville public school system. At a very young age, through baptism, she became a member of the St. Thomas AME Church. She worked in the hospitality industry until she became ill. Ella loved cooking, music, dancing, coffee and taking care of family and friends. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards and spending time with loved ones. She was selfless, compassionate and public-spirited. She was always joyful about living a full life. She loved and lived every moment she was given, taking nothing for granted. Ella was renowned for her amazing sense of humor and had a knack for telling it like it is. She always told you the truth even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. She had a personality that could brighten any
room. All whom loved her dearly will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, grace and undying love. She cared for each of them.

Ella's work on earth is done, she received a call to come home On August 11, 2017. It was an offer she couldn't refuse. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends she hasn't seen in a very long time.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Mamie James; and brothers Johnny, Frank and Samuel James.

Ella Mae Stevens was married to Charlie Stevens and to this union

five children was born; Charlie Stevens of Thomasville, Georgia, Tracey Stevens of St. Petersburg, Florida, Netasha (Anthony) King, Jacksonville, Florida; Montreal Stevens of Jacksonville, Florida and Corey Stevens of Jacksonville, Florida;

four sisters; Bernice Walker of St. Petersburg, Florida; Sally (Eddie) Graham of Thomasville, Lucille (Arthur) Bacon of Thomasville, Lucinda Brown of Thomasville; sister in-law, Rosa James;

16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends; devoted friends Linda Anderson, Betty Williams, Roslyn Carter, James Parnell and Glovanna Anderson.
