Alan Paul Anderson, 66, of Marshalltown, Iowa, died October 12th in the care of Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown. Visitation with refreshments for Alan will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown followed by burial of his cremated remains at Riverside Cemetery. Alan was a 1975 graduate of Marshalltown High School, where he was an outstanding student and athlete. In high school football, Alan wanted to wear jersey number 40, in honor of a fast professional player he respected, Gale Sayers. In junior high track, Alan was undefeated at hurdles during 7th, 8th and 9th grades. Alan learned to play chess from his father when he was six years old and learned pool at age nine. He described himself as an ambassador for God with The Way International, 1981 to 1987. The Northeast Pool League in Texas awarded Alan two pool trophies, 1988 and 1989. He has resided in Marshalltown since 1998. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Lois Anderson, and grandparents.
