William Vandeventer.

William Vandeventer, son of H. S. and Matilda Vandeventer, was born near Cooperstown, on April 14, 1852, and passed into eternal rest at the home of his brother, Clayton, in Ottawa, Kan., May 23, 1916, aged 64 years, 1 month and 8 days. Deceased had lived in Oklahoma for the past 16 years, going to that state from Kansas. His home was in Woodward, Okla., where he owned extensive farm lands. His decline in health dates back for several years, the immediate cause of his death being cancer of the stomach. The remains were brought to this city Thursday accompanied by his brother, Clayton, of Ottawa, Kan., and son, Dr. B. W. (R. W.) Vandeventer, of Hardin, Mo. The funeral was conducted from the Christian church Thursday afternoon of last week at 2 o'clock, by Rev. A. A. Heinline, pastor of the M. E. church. The burial was in the Vandeventer family cemetery, beside his parents. Deceased was married to Miss Anna Todd at Mt. Sterling in 1877. Two children were born to this union, Robert, and Roy W., who with two brothers and three sisters, survive, namely, Isaac, of this city: Clayton, of Ottawa, Kan.; Mrs. Mary Wright of Higbee, Colo.,; Mrs. Emily Rigg, of Baylis; and Mrs. Lizzie Rigg of New Salem, all of whom were present at the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Wright. William Vandeventer was known to our older citizens as a man of sterling worth, whose word was as good as his bond, always honorable in all things. His passing is mourned by a large circle of friends here who knew him and loved him because he was a man. Peace to his ashes.
