Sissy was Mary Jo Creen's Scottish Terrier who she referred to as her "baby" and thought of as the daughter she never had.

Sissy was born on June 4, 1988 near Omaha, NE. Mary Jo and her husband drove all the way from Fort Madison to Omaha to purchase Sissy. Their original intentions were to breed Sissy with a male Scottish Terrier that they owned named Mack. Unfortunately Sissy was born with a genetic illness that was only discovered after my Mary Jo & Jeff returned to Iowa with her. This illness made Sissy about half the size of a full grown Scottish Terrier. Her breeding days had ended before they begun. The breeder refunded Mary Jo's money and suggested that she have Sissy euthanized due to treatment being expensive. Fortunately for Sissy, Mary Jo had formed a strong attachment to Sissy before the illness was found. Mary Jo spent $1,000's on veterinarian bills to insure that Sissy would be able to live a normal life.

Sissy had a special place in Mary Jo's heart. Sissy's sleeping spot was at the end of Mary Jo's bed by her feet. She accompanied Mary Jo on all weekly trips and vacations in the car. Mary Jo would only stay at destinations where Sissy would be welcomed to stay as well. Sissy was very protective of Mary Jo as well. If any other dog's, large or small, came within Sissy's line of vision, she would snarl, growl, and if not watched closely, charge and "show them who's boss." Fortunately for Mary Jo, Sissy never ran into another dog she couldn't intimidate. In her wake she had left German Shepard's, Great Danes, Pit Bulls, and many other large breeds cowering and trembling at their owner's feet.

In the middle part of 2001, Sissy's health began to deteriorate and she slowed down. On October 6, 2001 Sissy went to sleep and never woke up at the foot of Mary Jo's bed. Mary Jo was devastated and had her "surrogate daughter" cremated and her ashes placed into a black urn which she proudly displayed in her living room. When Mary Jo was asked by family and friends what she intended to eventually do with Sissy's ashes, her reply was, "She was my little girl, she stays with me!" Mary Jo's family decided to honor that wish in the end.

Mary Jo Creen passed away on October 26, 2006. Sissy's urn of ashes were placed at Mary Jo's feet in her casket with her. Mary Jo and Sissy now sleep together in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
