BARRE CITY, VERMONT — Anita P. Murray, 84, of Barre, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

She was born in Montpelier on March 17, 1935, the daughter of the late Norma M. Perojo and Ramon Gomez. Anita was married to the late Donald J. Murray Sr. on Oct. 21, 1977, until his passing in 2017.

Anita enjoyed working and was employed at Sprague Electric until their closing and at Velan Value in Williston, as a purchasing agent. Upon retirement, Anita operated M & W Upholstery and enjoyed other part-time employment with the State of Vermont Court System ad National Life. She also was a life member of the Montpelier VFW, and a member of the American Legion and Montpelier Elks Lodge #924, where she served as the first woman Exalted Ruler.

Anita loved to cook for family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, golfing and reading. She pursued her passions throughout her life, taking Spanish classes for many years from her cousin, Jose Miana, and playing weekly pinochle. When not working, Anita loved giving care to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and also looking out for neighbors in need. Anita's greatest joy was animals. She was often accompanied in her retirement with her beloved dogs Ginger, Peanut and Ebony.

She is survived by her three children, four stepchildren, 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two brothers Nicola B. Susi and Ramon Gomez Jr.

A memorial service will be held in the spring to be announced.
