Dr. E.W. Kenyon wrote and published 16 books and three Bible-study courses before his death in 1948. But his ministry didn't die with him thanks to his daughter, Ruth Kenyon Housworth.
She assumed the presidency of Kenyon's Gospel Publishing in Lynnwood after her father died, continuing to distribute his writings worldwide until her death Wednesday. She was 74.
Mrs. Housworth will be missed by longtime employees Barbara Jaap and Bonnie Dofelmier, who between them have worked 43 years at the publishing firm.
"She was a very, very special person, always giving, always there with a Scripture, always talking to people about the Lord," Jaap said.
"When any of us was having tough times, she'd tell us our lives were like a pendulum - sometimes up, sometimes down - and they were bound to come up again."
Mrs. Housworth was active in the business until recently, Dofelmier said, and she met death calmly. When she realized her health wouldn't improve, she asked doctors to disconnect oxygen and intravenous-feeding systems. "She decided it was time to go home," Dofelmier said.
Mrs. Housworth was born in Spencer, Mass., and moved to Seattle as a young woman. She was married to Claude Iames for eight years before his death.
Her second husband, the Rev. Norman Housworth, said their marriage in 1969 was divinely directed.
His first wife died while they were living in Alberta, Canada, he said, and when he prayed for help, God woke him at 3 a.m. and told him to go to Seattle.
While here he read a newspaper article about his future wife, he said, and wrote her a letter saying God intended that they marry.
She wrote back, he said, and they were married weeks later.
"We had 25 wonderful years," Housworth said.
Mrs. Housworth was a longtime member of Ballard Baptist Church, where she sang and sometimes led the choir.
She also was a voracious reader, and could read a book in two hours.
Survivors, in addition to Housworth of Lynnwood include a brother, Essex Kenyon of Everett, two stepchildren, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, 11027 Meridian Ave. N.
The family suggests memorials to Kenyon's Gospel Publishing Society.
