He attended the Erich Ludendorff Gymnasium in Freiburg, Germany and the Aviation Engineering Academy in Kassel, Germany. He immigrated to the United States on July 4th 1952, and he became a U.S. citizen in 1957. He came to Clearwater in 1992 from Darien, Illinois after he retired from Official Airline Guides (OAG), a Division of Dun & Bradstreet Corporation in Oak Brook Illinois. During his 20 years of service with OAG, he held various management positions. Juergen was a veteran of World War II, having served in the German Air Force "Luftwaffe" in 1944-1945. Prior to his service with OAG, he also held several management positions with Pan American World Airways, American Airlines and US Airways between 1949 and 1968. He loved to travel and has been to 86 foreign countries, and six Continents. Most travels were business oriented. Juergen was listed in the American Aviation's "Who's Who in World Aviation" (1958 Edition). Survivors include his sister Carmen Ballast Hack, of Centerville, Ohio, and her family members John and Tom Hack in Detroit, Michigan; a son Mark Ballast of Clearwater; a daughter Cynthia Ballast Nadherny of Yorkville, Illinois and three grandchildren; Frank, Jill and Jennifer. He was a great grandfather to Molly Nadherny and Jonah Nadherny. He has a half sister Marion Ballast Brand and half brother Dr. Lothar Ballast residing in Frankfurt, Germany, and his good and dearest long time friend Mary Holwick of Clearwater, Florida. A Celebration Of Life will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 S. Belcher Road, Clearwater, Florida.
