Rudolph Tucker
WEIR, Kan. - Rudolph Melborn “Red” Tucker, 74, Weir, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Tucker was born July 6, 1921, at Paragould, Ark., where he attended school. He moved to Weir in 1979 from Pacific, Mo. He attended the vocational-technical training program at what is now Pittsburg (Kan.) State University and graduated as a certified welder.
He worked as a boilermaker and welder for Local 27 for more than 28 years, retiring in 1971. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1940 to 1944.
He married Elma Roberta Brackney on July 8, 1943, at Paragould. She died March 28, 1991.
Survivors include a son, J.D. Shaw, Miami, Okla.; two daughters, Jacquelyn Williams, Grove, and Saundra Stricklin, Weir; four brothers, Leon Tucker, Buford Tucker and Billy Joe Tucker, all of Paragould, and James Tucker, Harbor, Mich.; a sister, Albertine Dodge, Young, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Weir. The Rev. Michael Akins-Banman will officiate. Burial will be in Hosey Hill Cemetery, Weir.
Graveside flag-folding ceremonies will be conducted by members of Clarence Smith Post No. 272, American Legion, Weir.
Friends may call after 10 a.m Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Contributions may be made to Weir Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
