"Mattie E. Manes, central Kansas City, died Nov. 3, 1989, at the Independence Regional Health Center. She was born in Polk County, Mo., and moved to Kansas City in 1954. Mrs. Manes worked for the Business Men's Assurance Co., from 1953 to 1971 and then worked for the Veterans of Foreign Wars until she retired in 1979. She was a member of Local 96 of the Service Employees International Union. She was a member of the New Bethel Church, Halfway, Mo. Survivors include a son, Earl Dean Manes of Kansas City; a daughter, Emma Jean Beck of Independence; a brother, Willard Willis of Humansville, Mo.; two sisters, Pauline Patterson of Cudahy, Calif., and Blanche Barker of Joplin, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Muehlebach Chapel; burial in Mount Washington Cemetery." The Kansas City Times, November 4, 1989
