He worked for ISC, Inc. as an electrician, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Central. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Lena Achord; brother, Marshall Achord; sisters, Louis Neal, Ester "Tiny" Murphy, and Evelyn Simoneaux; brothers-in-law, Mike Neal, Jim Hicks, Richard Murphy, and Odis Watts; and sister-in-law, Odessa Achord. Surviving are his wife, Janet Achord; son, Jerid Achord and wife, Heather; grandchild, Julia Achord; stepdaughters, Sadye Bates and Penny Patterson and husband JoJo; stepson, Jason Burgess; brother, J C "Buddy" Achord; and sisters, Shirley Hicks, Ouida Watts, and Mary Norman and husband, Gerald.
