Mary Madl, 95, of Walnut, Kansas, passed away Sept 9, 2018 in High Rolls, New Mexico, from a heart attack.
Mary was a loving and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter. She will be greatly missed by all her children who also considered her their best friend. Mary was a loving and unselfish person who acted as a full time caregiver for both her parents and her husband when their health failed in their final years.
She was born in rural Southeast Kansas to Edwin and Elizabeth (Butler) Stephan. She was their only child. She grew up on her parents farm in rural Walnut. She graduated from high school in Joplin, Missouri and attended business school in Parsons, Kansas. She was employed at the REA office in Girard, Kansas, following business school. She married Edwin Francis Madl on Sept 9,1944 in Girard Kansas. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2013.
She lived in Wichita, Kansas, for 40 years where her husband was employed at Beech Aircraft. After her husbands retirement, they moved back to her parents farm in rural Walnut. Following her husbands death she lived with her son James in rural La Luz, New Mexico, spending time at her Kansas farm in summer.
Survivors include three children, Karen Rafferty and husband Andrew of Kerrville, Texas, James Madl of La Luz, New Mexico, and Larry Madl and his wife Angela of High Rolls, New Mexico; five grandchildren William Rafferty, David Rafferty, Steven Rafferty, Brian Madl and Jennifer Madl; six great-grandchildren, Hanna Rafferty, Travis Rafferty, Iris Rafferty, Rania Rafferty, Finn Rafferty and Julia Rafferty.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin.
Services will be held at a later date in Kansas. The Madl family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
