Emma C. Riley
Mrs. Emma C. Riley, age 87, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 2, 2008, in her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Wilmington on February 21, 1920, Mrs. Riley was a daughter of the late William Holden and Anna Belville Holden. She was a longtime member of Richardson Park United Methodist Church. She worked for the former Five Points Restaurant in Wilmington for 25 years and later was employed with Delaware Park, where she worked in the cafeteria until the age of 80. During her entire career, she never missed a day of work. Mrs. Riley was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who never forgot a birthday or to send a card to her loved ones. In addition to gardening, she found great joy in time spent with her beloved dog, Sara.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard J. Riley, Sr. and a daughter, Maryann Riehm. She is survived by her children, William J. Riley and his wife, Jean, of Baltimore, MD, Bernard J. Riley and his wife, Pam, of Middletown, DE, Rosalie M. Riley and her husband, James, of Wilmington, DE, James J. Riley and his wife, Heather, of St. Pete, FL, Robert C. Riley of Newark, DE, John Riley and his wife, Theresa, of New Castle, DE, Carolyn Klair of Wilmington, DE; and Joseph Riley and his wife, Sharon, of Middletown, DE; 28 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to the nurses and staff of Heartland Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 261 Chapman Rd., Ste. 100, Newark, DE 19702.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, on Wednesday, February 6, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where friends may call after 1 pm. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
