WARSAW, Ill. -- Virgil Samuel Hardy, 86, a resident of Warsaw for the past 35 years, died at 8:07 p.m. Saturday (March 3, 1979) in Keokuk Area Hospital East from injuries suffered when struck by a car in Keokuk Thursday night.
Mr. Hardy was born April 1, 1892, in Novelty, Mo., a son of Samuel and Mary Roley Hardy. He first married Daisy L. Adams in 1912. She died in 1970. He married Marie Cox in 1971 in Warsaw. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Warsaw. He was employed at Dryden Rubber Co. in Keokuk, Iowa, before he retired.
Surviving are his wife; four sons, Earl and Charles Hardy, both of Warsaw, Donald of Hamilton and Dale of Quincy; three daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Hall and Mrs. David (Marjorie) Crow, both of Warsaw and Mrs. Travis (Cecile) Brownlee of Sutter; a brother, Gilbert of Peoria; two sisters, Mrs. Wren (Erma) Kelly of Quincy and Mrs. Mary Jane Hoagland of St. Louis; 29 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, a brother, a sister and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton, conducted by the Rev. Alfred L. Jones. Burial will be in New Loraine Cemetery south of West Point. Arrangements are being handled by Lamporte Funeral Home in Warsaw.
The family suggests memorials be made to a fund established in his name at the funeral home.
