Verne Whitney, 83, died Sunday at Arlington Cascade Valley Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 19, 1897, in Wisconsin. He had lived in the Entiat and Manson areas since 1942, had he moved to the Arlington area five years ago.

Whitney was a veteran of World War I.

He is survived by five daughters, Lynda Dietrich of Manson, Ruth Overton of Arlington, Doris Bennett of Hialeah, Fla., Karen McMasters of Seattle, and Louise Brosi of Apple Valley, Minn.; two sons, Robert Whitney, Renton, and Gene Whitney, Denver, Colo.; and one sister, Marion Bergersen, Bozeman, Mont.; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
