Puryear, Robyn Elizabeth, 56, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on September 25, 2022. Just like that, life for so many people changed.
Family was everything to Robyn. She was the nurturer and organizer for her closeknit family in which she was the middle child. She is survived by her mother, Hazel Grimm Puryear; siblings, Susan Forthuber (Doug), Dana Wilson (John), Amy Gledhill, and Rob Puryear (Kristin). Mourning the loss of their favorite aunt are Robyn's nieces and nephews, Ray (Emily), Andrew, Cara (Dave), Ellie, Reid, Owen, Audrey, Bridget, Jessi, and Lydia. Robyn adored her great nephew, Holden, and great niece, Holland. Her father, Robert Oliver Puryear, Jr., predeceased Robyn. Holding very tightly to memories of their years with Robyn are lifelong friends Kim Lynch and Donnie Osborne.
In her younger years Robyn was an accomplished gymnast, favoring the uneven bars and tolerating the balance beam. The discipline required to excel in sports prepared her for a successful professional life. Her work ethic, reputation for excellence, and her mentoring of others during her career – including 18 years with Henrico County Community Corrections – were unmatched.
One of Robyn's many gifts was her ability to create a beautiful home surrounded by flower gardens. More than one unruly and neglected yard was transformed to reflect nature's beauty through her talents and green thumb. Robyn was happiest with a carload of new plants (some barely alive) and her hands in the soil – often with rescue pups Mollie and Maggie by her side.
Robyn led quietly, doing big and small things for others with no expectation of anything in return. Since her death, friends, colleagues, and neighbors have shared their tributes: Robyn was always kind, organized, independent, straight-talking, a caregiver, a doer, a creative problem solver with a strong business acumen and a deep passion for human services, always willing to help, generous, and a little bit of sunshine to all of us!
Robyn was a loyal friend and easy to love. She loved going to the annual plant sales at Hermitage High School, rising before dawn to shop after Thanksgiving, taking trips to the beach, and working on projects for Laurel Park United Methodist Church. Robyn was a giving person who left this world a better place.
Visitation will be held at Bliley's, 8510 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, Va on Friday, October 7 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. All are welcome to attend Robyn's service on Saturday, October 8 at 1 p.m., Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Lane, Richmond, Va.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to The Robyn Puryear Memorial Scholarship Fund established to provide an annual scholarship for a student in Hermitage High School's horticulture program. Give online at www.HenricoGives.org/invest or by check payable to Henrico Education Foundation, P.O. Box 31413, Henrico, Va 23294. Please include Robyn Puryear Memorial Scholarship Fund in the memo.
