Funeral services for Lucille Bowman, age 98, of Spencer, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Spencer. Pastor Glen Stahlecker will officiate, with burial in Union Cemetery in Spencer.


Lucille died Friday, September 30, 2022, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska, after a brief illness.


Lucille Nell Johnson Bowman was born November 24, 1923, to Harry and Clarice (Kerbel) Johnson of Hamill, South Dakota, and was the oldest of six children. The family moved to Spencer, Nebraska in 1930. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1942 and attended Midland College for nine weeks and received her teacher's certificate. Lucille taught school in Holt, Sarpy, and Dodge counties in Nebraska.


Lucille married Carl Derald Bowman on November 23, 1946. They were the parents of 16 children, including three sets of twins. The 14 surviving children all graduated from Spencer High School. They raised their family on a farm south of Spencer.


Derald passed away October 10, 1986, and shortly after Lucille left the farm and moved into a house in town.


Lucille busied herself selling Watkins, crocheting and knitting afghans, potholders and scratchers, visiting with friends and family, going to church and the senior center. Lucille got her driver's license at age 60 and continued to drive until age 96. In 2020, she moved in with her daughter Susan when things started shutting down due to Covid-19. In 2022, Lucille moved into Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk, Nebraska.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Derald Bowman; children, Gary and infant twin Aneta, Robert, Allen, and infant Daniel; sons-in-law, Dennis Waggoner and Ed Howell; grandchildren, Kari Bowman, Jordan Bowman, and Evan Bowman; and great-grandchild, Timothy Stoffer.
