In Loving Memory of
Robert Lee Rich

Wife and Loving Mother:
Trudie Mae Rich

Bessie Mae Mabry-Rich
Warner Curtis Rich

Margaret Estelle Rich Busby.

He met my Mother, Trudie Mae Free
at a church picnic and they were
married October 24, 1936.

They had four children:
Bobby Lee 1940,
Barbara Ann 1945,
Martha Mae 1947,
Donald Curtis 1950.
Also there was one child who was
stillborn.I was the only one born
at home.

Daddy was a gentle and humble man who
worked very hard to provide for his
family. My husband, Bill, said he had
more patience than any man he had ever
known. When we were little we lived in
a small house on my great Aunt Sallie's
place and Daddy sharecropped for them.
Daddy raised cotton and we were all
required to work in the field.
When we weren't working there was a
creek that ran through the field and
we spent lots of time playing there.

One of my happiest memories was when
the cotton was ready to go to the gin.
Daddy would load the wagon and hitch
up the mules. We would climb in and
sink down into the cotton, it was like
riding on a cloud. It would take the
whole day to make the trip to the gin.
When we got there, Daddy gave us
a quarter to spend at the little
country store. A quarter sure would
buy a lot back then. We didn't have a
lot but we were happy and knew that
we were loved.

Daddy got a job working for the county
and later the state highway dept from
which he retired to care for Mother
after she suffered a stroke.
Daddy and Mother celebrated their 50th
anniversary before his death.

Daddy had heart problems and
emphasema but worried about what
would happen to Mother at his death.
His sister and my favorite Aunt
Margaret, who was our angel here on
earth left her home and cared for
Mother for over 8 years until we had to
place Mother in a nursing home. Daddy
died on Labor Day weekend Sept. 6, 1987.
I rode in the ambulance with him like so
many times before. In less than one
hour, we were told that Daddy had
passed on from a heart attack. It was
such a shock. Bill, his parents and
other family members gathered at the
hospital. Going back home and telling
Mother and Aunt Margaret that Daddy
was gone was the hardest thing that
I ever had to do.

Mother and Daddy were both members
of the Strayhorn Baptist Church.

Daddy left behind his wife Trudie,
his sister Margaret, and all four of
his children.

6 Grandchildren:
Sylvia and Jeff Rich,
Paul and Mark Henley
and my daughters,
Teresa and Angela Lowe.

He had one Great Granddaughter:
Abby Red. Daddy had 6 more
Great Grandchildern after his
death. Zach Red, Nick Woolfolk
Lexie Henley, Cheyenne and Dakota
Rich and Austin McBride.

It has been over 20 years since
Daddy died and we Love and Miss him
and look forward to the day when we
will all be together again.

"Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one, the Chain will link again."
