Elizabeth (Betty) Youngs Shaner. born November 11, 1928, in Olean, NY, passed away at her apartment in Juniper Village, in State College, PA on Saturday, September 24. She was 93 years old. Betty was the daughter of Louise Welch Potter and Raymond Youngs (both deceased).

In 1948, she married Alyn Lewis Shaner of Bolivar, NY who predeceased her on October 1, 1994. She and her husband belonged to the Episcopal Church of Our Savoir in Bolivar, NY.

Betty attended Olean High School in Olean, NY. She was active in her local community organizing various fundraisers for charities such as the committee for the annual "Ball of Roses" for Olean General and St. Francis Hospitals, the Cancer Society, Heart Association, and the Girl Scouts.

Betty and Alyn moved to State College, PA in 1992. Surviving Betty are two sons and two daughters: Ellen (Paul) Joliet of Boalsburg, PA, Jayne (Dale) Paffie of State College, PA, Fred (Mary) Shaner of State College, PA, and Lance (Ellen) Shaner of Boca Raton, FL. She has 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

"Glamour Betty" was known for her quick smile, sparkling Irish Eyes, and good sense of humor. She was happiest laughing with her family and friends and singing clever little songs to her grandchildren.

The family wishes to especially thank Betty's personal caregivers, Karen and Debbie also, Carol, Nance and the Juniper Village staff.

Funeral services are under the direction of the Koch Funeral Home, 2402 S. Atherton St., State College, PA. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 208 W. Foster Ave., State College, PA. on Thursday, October 6 at 11 am. A private burial, under the direction of Schaffner Funeral Home, will take place in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar, NY on Saturday, October 8 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
