Sylvia Mae Lawson, 81, a lifelong Walton, resident, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2007 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, NY.

Sylvia was born in the Town of Walton on October 20, 1925, the daughter of the late Berkley and Ruth (Tracey) Puffer. Sylvia married Walter H. Lawson on December 20, 1941 at DeLancey, NY. She was of the Jehovah Witness faith and a member of the Kingdom Hall in Hamden. She had been employed in the kitchen at the Delaware County Infirmary and at DC-4 at Delhi College.

Sylvia was a homemaker and a wonderful wife and mother. She was very devoted to her family and was always concerned about others, even near the end of her life. She was a strong woman who had lots of friends. Sylvia loved growing flowers and also knitting and crocheting numerous items. Her crocheting won a second place at the Delaware County Fair just 2 years ago.

Sylvia is survived by her husband: Walter H. Lawson, Sr. ; six daughters: April Lawson of SC, Betty (Chuck) Ashley of Johnstown, NY, Sylvia (Don) Gibson of Hamden, Linda (Tom) Glass of Delhi, Dot Fournier of Unadilla, Nancy (Ed) Walley of Delhi, and three sons: Walter (Linda) Lawson of Delhi, Clayton (Tammy) Lawson of Franklin, James (Ann) Lawson of Walton; 26 grandchilden; Billy, Neil, Josh, Barbara, Susan, Becky, Anna, Bradley, Dawn, Chrissy, Joey, Rachel, Kim, Clayton R., Phillip, Shonna, Melisa, Ruth, Clayton W., Elizabeth, Sylvia, Amber, Andrew, Kaitlyn, Nathan and Abigail; several great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard (Jenny) Puffer and Steven (Joan) Puffer and two sisters; Stella (Dave) Sprague and Lydia (Sonny) Serra and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by an infant brother, Frank, and a sister, Florence Cobb.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 5:00 pm at Kingdom Hall, Hamden, NY. There are no prior calling hours.
