Rex A. Chandler, 63, of Quincy, died of a heart attack in Blessing Hospital at 1 p.m. on Thursday (Aug. 28, 2014).
He was born on Aug. 15, 1951, in Pittsburg, Calif., a son of Bob and Joan Fischer Chandler.
During his early education he lettered in several sports and graduated from Quincy Senior High School in 1969. He continued his education at Quincy University, graduating with a degree in psychology, and went to SIU in Carbondale as a pre-med major.
He moved to Southern California in 1977 and established Chandler and Associates which became a prosperous industrial medical consulting business. He met Debra Hull whom he married and she joined his business. They were married for several years prior to divorce; yet they maintained a strong friendship. During those years he enjoyed much success, good health and had many friends whom he frequently entertained. Rex was a "bigger than life" character that loved being with people and making others laugh. He was a master storyteller with a great sense of humor. Rex was generous and always willing to help others, especially the disadvantaged.
He moved back to Quincy when his health began to decline. Although he often didn't feel well, he never lost his sense of appreciation for others. He treasured family and friends, and maintained his love for others, most importantly veterans and children.

He will be missed by many.

SERVICES: At his request his body was donated for scientific purposes to a medical school. There will be a memorial gathering 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
MEMORIALS: Great River Honor Flight for veterans or to the Blessing Hospitality House which provides accommodations for families of pediatric patients who are in Blessing Hospital.
ARRANGEMENTS: Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
