Glenda Sue Schmidt, 77, formerly of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away peacefully in Richmond, Texas on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

Glenda was born on October 21, 1940 in Wellington, Texas to W.M. and Sue Hayhurst. She grew up in a large, loving family surrounded by 2 brothers, 2 sisters and many grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins whom she adored. In 1950 they moved to Amarillo, Texas where she graduated from Amarillo High School in 1958. Glenda married Fred Schmidt in 1958 and they were blessed with four children. The family relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1973 where she spent her time shuttling them to and from school, sports activities, and dance recitals. She was always the first to volunteer at her children's schools, be the team mom, and opened her home to anybody in need of a good meal — and boy could she cook! Once her children were raised she began working at IBM Texas Employees Federal Credit Union where she was the branch manager until retiring in 2007. She then moved to Texas to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Glenda stayed active by volunteering at Helping Hands and OakBend Medical Center.

Glenda's personality can be summed up in one word — grit. She suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and lived in constant debilitating pain. She had every excuse to be angry at her circumstances and pain, yet anybody who knew her will testify to her strength and tenacity. She never complained, had endless patience, and was a constant source of wisdom, encouragement, and kindness to everyone, even amidst her own suffering.

Glenda is preceded in death by her parents W.M. and Sue Hayhurst, her brother Keith Hayhurst, her sister Gay Passmore, and her grandson Jacob Schmidt. Her beautiful life will be forever cherished by her children Bill Schmidt and wife Diane, Bob Schmidt and wife Tricia, Christy Sovereign and husband John, Brian Schmidt and wife Jennifer, thirteen grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many other friends and family members who love her.

In Glenda's true selfless and altruistic way she donated her body to science. She said, "If I can prevent one person from going through what I have had to live with, it will be worth it."
