Alvin Nelson Roberts of Crow Mountain went to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 12, 2007. The son of the late Harley Doyle & Ellen Mariah Bowden Roberts. He was born October 6, 1938 on Crow Mountain. He was a lifetime member of the Mars Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he served as Elder, teacher, and Superintendent for 29 years. He served as President, Board Member, and a care taker of Bowden Cemetery Association. A job he and his sisters took over after their father Doyle Roberts retired. He was a 1956 graduate of Pottsville High School. He joined the US Air Force in 1958 and served until 1965. He was Veteran of the Vietnam War were he served as a Sergeant. He returned to attend Arkansas Tech in Russellville and later graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was employed with USDA Farmers Home Administration (presently Rural Development) from 1966 until he retired in 1996 as Pope County Administrator. He later worked as Secretary for Duncan Construction Inc. He was a long time member of Pottsville Masonic Lodge Number 333 where he was a Master Mason and Secretary for 29 years. He was a lifetime member of Rogers-Rye Post 2283, Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he served as Adjutant for 24 years. He was a past President of Arkansas Coon Hunters Association and a life time member of the River Valley Coon Hunters Assoc. He was the founder of Old Charter and Murray Creek Hunting Clubs in Johnson County. Alvin Enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. We have all lost a great friend who would help anyone.
He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Ruby Roberts, of Dover. Two sister's and one brother-in-law, Martha and William "Red" Jones, and Ms. Jo Alvey of Crow Mt. Four Nephews, Mike Alvey, Steve Alvey, James Alvey, and Rusty Jones. Three nieces, Pam Puckett, Mary Bolen, and Marsha Oels, all of Crow Mt. And a host of friends and relatives.
Funeral services held December 17, 2007 at Humphrey Chapel with the Reverend Alfred Kinslow and Reverend Bill Moody officiating. Burial followed at Bowden Cemetery on Crow Mt. Pottsville with military honors provided by Rogers Rye Post 2283 and the Pottsville Masonic Lodge 333. Active Pallbearers were nephew's Rusty Jones, Mike Alvey, Steve Alvey, James Alvey, Keith Oels, and Stephen Bolen.
Honorary Pallbearers were members and elders of Mars Hill, C.P. Church, Pottsville Masonic Lodge 333, Rogers Rye Post 2283 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Old Charter and Murray Creek Hunting Club, Duncan Construction Co., Dr. Bradley And Dr. Michael Cooper.
