In the early 1820's Caroline married John Weymer (1799-1848) of New York State and they raised a large family in Rockland County, NY and Passaic County, NJ until moving to Shelby, Ohio in the in late 1830's, which was fast become a location of iron manufacturing, particularly for farm equipment. Some Belcher researchers report her husband died there in 1848, while other say he was killed in a sand blast in the Sterling Mines in New York.
It is known Caroline and John were in Ohio long enough for several of their children to be born there, but by 1850 she was found as a 46-year old widow living with her married son William in Orange County, New York. By 1870, perhaps earlier, she had moved to Paterson, NJ where she lived the last 14 years of her life with her married daughter Caroline Weymer Garside.
Caroline died in Paterson in 1884 just shy of her 82nd birthday.
Her three surviving sons moved west and died there but her five surviving daughters married and remained the Passaic County area.
*** NOTE *** The Belcher family has been extensively researched by family members, and two descendants (William Henry Belcher and Joseph Warren Belcher) penned a family history in 1941 wherein they report that Caroline Belcher married John WAMER; however all public documents found by this researcher indicate she spelled his surname WEYMER, which is used here.
