After high school he enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably from 1978 to 1990. After the service he worked several careers, including boat building, commercial fishing, forestry, private duty nursing, and security. He also served as warden and groundskeeper for the town of Steuben. He was patriotic and very respectful of veterans. He was always quick to help people in need, especially the elderly. He enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing, hunting and traveling.
He was predeceased by his mother, Sylvia Brooks, father, John Brooks, and brother Howard Brooks. He will be greatly missed by family and all who knew him. Surviving are sisters Lillian Tucker and husband, Francis Tucker, of Cherryfield; Terry Mullarky and husband, Kevin Mullarky, of Arundel; Ann Lyons and Don Hamlin of Aberdeen, S.D.; Doris Varney and husband, Edward Varney, of Durham; brother John Brooks Jr. and wife, Angela Brooksm of Steuben; his best friend of many years, Larry Pinkham; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at Morse Cemetery, Cherryfield on Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. Following the service will be a brunch at Narraguagus Estates Community Room, Cherryfield.
