Marblehead - Barbara Ethel Young (née Borden), aged 84, of Marblehead, died February 8, 2022, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Kenneth Marshall Young.

Born in Caribou, Maine, Barbara was the daughter of the late Florence Borden Carr and step-father H. Ross Carr. She graduated from Caribou High School and from the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing. She was active in school activities and especially proud to be chosen as Brigham's Student Nurse of the Year in 1959.

Barbara worked for 40 years as a nurse in Marblehead at the Mary A. Alley Hospital and the Marblehead Walk-In Center. She was also a member of the Old North Church and the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital Alumni Association. A caregiver at heart, she was very proud to be a Brigham nurse and enjoyed her long career in nursing, as well as the life-long connections and friendships she maintained.

Barbara's love of her family was central to her life. She enjoyed reading, traveling with her husband, and the joys of her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her gentle voice, her infectious laugh, and her thoughtful, supportive nature.

She is survived by her son, Charles M. Young of New York; two daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine Thompson and husband George of Poland, ME, and Deborah Lovett and husband George of Danvers, MA; and six grandchildren, George Thompson of Beverly, MA, Douglas Thompson and wife Monika of Billerica, MA, Russell Thompson of Methuen, MA, Rachel Lovett of Lowell, MA, and Erin and Jessica Lovett of Danvers, MA.
