Joseph was the son of Reverend Joseph Willis 1758-1854 ~ He has also been referred to as "Reverend" in some sites. There are some descrepencies in his actual birth date ranging from 1789-1792 but it was not later than this because his mother passed away in 1793 ~
Marriage Index Records from the "Louisiana, U.S., Compiled Marriages, 1728-1850" show that Joseph married Jane "Jennie" Coker on Feb 5, 1814 in Opelousas, St. Landry, Louisiana, United States. Joseph's father, Rev. Joseph Willis, Sr., performed the ceremony. Their known children that have been recorded: Eliza, Sarah, Joseph Peter, Elizabeth, Charles, Lemuel, Mary, Cyndelia Lucinda and Martha ~ ~
Joseph passed away in October 1870 while living in the Rapides Parish, Louisiana, having lived a long life of 78 years. Where he was laid to rest is unknown at this time ~
