Mary Jean Shepherd, 51, of rural Columbia City, died peacefully at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2022, at her home surrounded by family.

Born May 28, 1970, in Columbia City, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Jene and Jean (Sievers) Simon. She began elementary school at Columbia Twp. School moving to Marshall Memorial. She graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1988.

She began her work career with Larwill Products in 1990 in the quality department. In 2005 she went to work for Universal Manufacturing/Kilgore Manufacturing in Columbia City. In 2017, she began working as the inventory supervisor for Impact CNC, Columbia City and 2019 became a part-time clerk at the local Kroger store.

Since 2000, she was together with the love of her life, Paul E. Shepherd. The couple wed on August 16, 2018. They have always made their home in Etna-Troy Twp.

Her children and grandchildren were the focus and joy in her life. She enthusiastically attended all of their school sporting events often wearing and purchasing tee shirts supporting the team. She liked raising flowers and traveling with her husband. They enjoyed visiting Pigeon Forge, TN and Myrtle Beach, SC or sometime, Mackinaw Island. Fond of animals, she could not pass-up a stray providing them food and shelter. She had a special place in her heart for a special needs dog – Dobey who survives.

From her teenage years at the Warsaw speedway, presenting trophies to the race winners, she was a loyal NASCAR fan preferring the drivers of her generation. She was equally loyal to Bobby Knight and IU Basketball especially during the Steve Alford years. During football season, she followed the Chicago Bears.

Surviving is her husband, Paul; children, Cassandra J. King, Amanda M. Nordman, Justina R. Shepherd all of Columbia City; grandchildren Ryker A. King and Raven R. Smith; sisters, Sheri (Duane) Lambert, Nancy (Jeff) Davis, Lori A. (Lupe) Morua all of Columbia City and Debra M. (Gail) Eversole of South Whitley; and a brother Brian D. (Tonia) Pelfrey of Columbia City.
