Mrs. M. D. Downie, who had been prominent in social, welfare, and church work in the New Norfolk district for many years, died at Glen Derwent on Saturday.
Mrs. Downie was one of the foundation members of the New Norfolk Red Cross branch, and worked for the cause of servicemen through two wars.
She was a prominent member of the New Norfolk branch of the Victoria League, and during the Second World War was actively associated with the New Norfolk
Voluntary Aid Detachment. Her work for St. Matthew's Church extended over many years.
She, is survived by her husband, Mr. A. V. Downie, a son, Mr. A. T.
W. Downie, New Norfolk, and four daughters. Mesdames J. Hay, C.
Mitchell. W. Bewick, and L. Findlay.
