LAUREN LEE MILLER was born on December 24, 1953 in Hettinger, ND to Bud and Shirley Miller. He attended grade school at Lodgepole, SD, high school in Hettinger, ND graduating in 1972. He attended two years of college at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. He was active in 4-H and in 1966 showed the grand champion Steer at the Junior Livestock Show in Lemmon, SD. He participated in all sports, was a gifted athlete and at one time he held the Hettinger High School record for High Jump. Lauren was united in marriage to Debbie Fix on March 11, 1978. They have two daughters, Erin and Jamee.
Lauren, played on the Junior Legion team and in later years was a pitching coach. Lauren was active in the Rod and Gun Club, the Hettinger Golf Club, Couples Bowling League, Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited.
Lauren was co-owner of the Hettinger Candy Company. He held various offices of the ND Candy and Tobacco Association serving one year as president. He truly loved spending weekends at their cabin on Shadehill Lake, "pontooning" on the lake, visiting with friends and neighbors and listening to music. He was a self-taught carpenter and woods craftsman. Lauren was an avid sportsman, a loving husband, father, son and brother. He will be remembered as a "favorite uncle" and good friend to many, willing to help anyone at anytime with anything.
Lauren Miller passed away due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on Saturday, March 19, 2005 near Prairie City, SD.
He will be forever missed by his wife, Debbie, of Hettinger, and their daughters, Erin Miller and Fiancée Chad Brousseau and Jamee Miller, all of Fargo, ND; his parents, Bud and Shirley Miller, of Hettinger; his brothers, Leo and wife Debbie Miller of Hettinger and Lane and wife Kristi Miller, of Fresno, CA; his sisters, Connie and husband Tom Sims, of Lodgepole, SD and Cindy and husband Roy Aafedt, of Fargo, ND and his special "Best Friend", Payton and numerous other family members and many friends. Lauren was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Laurence and Dava (Shelkey) Bracewell and paternal grandparents, Edwin and Lavina (Butterfield) Miller.
