Professional Baseball Player. He was drafted in the 1966 Major League Baseball Draft in round 2 out of Carson High School as a shortstop by the Los Angeles Dodgers. But because of the 1970 Rule V Draft he was acquired by the Detroit Tigers. He made his MLB debut for the Tigers on September 7, 1972. In his 2 year career (1972-1973) that ended on May 25, 1973 he played in 13 games scored 1 run as a pinch runner. He started his career in baseball while still in high school at Carson High School where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. He earned All-State status in football three times and in 1965 was named a high school football All-American. John earned All-State status four times in baseball and was named to the All-Conference team in basketball twice.
