Obituary

Mary Louise (Hendley) Rodgers, age 78 passed away Sunday afternoon, September 11, 2022 at her home in Trafalgar.

She was born September 1, 1944 in Providence, to her parents, the late Wilbur J. and Ida Mae (Taylor) Hendley. Mary attended grade school at Trafalgar and then moved to Southwestern School in Shelby County. She was a loving wife, mother, homemaker and grandmother.

She married Alton W. Rodgers on October 24, 1961 in Trafalgar. He preceded her in death on September 14, 2020 after 58 loving and devoted years of marriage. Mary was also preceded in death by siblings, Susie McCluskey, Walter Hendley, Margie Ward and Billy Hendley.

She is survived by her children, Allen (Joyce) Rodgers and Beth Brown, both of Trafalgar; siblings, Mildred Burgdoff of Terre Haute, Sara Hendley of Greenwood, Lilly Eisenmenger of Nineveh, J.R. Hendley & Ray Lawrence Hendley, both of Amity; grandchildren, Melissa Mofield, Jeffrey Rodgers, Tyler Rodgers and Alan Barnes, all of Trafalgar; and nine great grandchildren.

Mary enjoyed the outdoors by tending to vegetable & flower gardens and mowing her yard. She also enjoyed quilting, listening to country music, fishing and hunting with her husband. Mary will be remembered for her love of family especially her grandchildren and great grandchild. She will also be remembered for her baking of cakes and pies, with dried apple pie being her family's favorite.

The Rev. John Bell will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
