Beverly's first passion was taking care of her husband and three children. Which naturally progressed to grandchildren and great-grandchildren. According to her, her children and grandchildren were the most beautiful, talented, artistic, and smartest people to have ever been born. Beverly took several part-time jobs when her kids were smaller, but only part-time because she felt compelled to be home for her husband and children. She clean houses, hotel rooms, sold Avon, groomed dogs, and decorated birthday and wedding cakes just to name a few. She picked these jobs up whenever she needed funding for her children's birthdays, Christmas, athletic events, etc. She rarely, if ever, spent a dime on herself. Beverly was a graduate of Ellettsville High School in 1958. Her first full-time job was as a teacher's assistant at Ellettsville Elementary where she seemed to find a new passion with the children of strangers as her own children reached young adulthood. She loved hundreds of school-aged children as she loved her own for many years. Eventually she began her own teaching career at Grace Baptist Academy where she spent several years as a teacher until she retired. After Beverly's husband Paul retired, he spent many hours with her students on field trips and school parties.
She married Paul Leon May of Ellettsville on July 12, 1958. Paul and Beverly complemented each other very well. Paul grew the vegetables and she canned them to feed the family all year long. While Paul and Beverly were never world travelers, they often visited family in Florida and made many trips to see their son and grandchildren in Wisconsin. But their favorite trip of all was when they spent several weeks touring the west and northwest with their oldest grandson, Ryan, after they retired. After the passing of Paul on June 18, 2005, any energy she had left after following all her grandchildren's activities, she spent crocheting afghans by the truckload. A skill she was very proud to talk about having been taught to her by her grandmother, Anna Godsey.
She is survived by her three children, Paul "Bud" May (Jill) of Ellettsville, IN, Anthony Scot May (Pattie) of Springfield, IL, and Lori Gene Ogan (Rod) of Spencer, IN. Also her grandchildren (great grandchildren): Ryan and Anna May (Leo and Everly Kay), Nick and Jordan May, Lauren May (Maddox Scot), Nathan and Amanda Ogan (Sophia), Sadie Kay and Matt Callahan (Luke), Natalie and Trace Temples (Liam and Olivia), Lydia May and boyfriend Kevin Chi. She is also survived by her brother Robert Joseph Cantrell (Ruth Ann) and Sister Ava Gene McSwane (Dave).
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Richard Cantrell and Gilbert Ray Cantrell, Step-sister Katie Ellis, and great granddaughter (Mackenzie Ogan).
