died of cancer of the stomach; d/o Cager and Amelia (Swartz) Creel

OBITUARY:

At her home on Commercial street, Saturday, June 30, 1894, at 6 o'clock a.m., Mrs. Mary Ethel Cooper, aged 53 years.

The deceased was born near Macomb, McDonough county, Illinois, in 1841, but came across the plains in 1853 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Crell, settling in Linn county. She was married to Frank Cooper in 1853 and in 1874 they came to Salem, where she established a millinery business, and she has lived here almost all the time since. Her husband died September 6, 1887.

Mrs. Frank Cooper has always been an upright industrious woman, working hard to maintain herself in the struggle of life, and at the same time ever ready with the hand of charity, kindness and assistance wherever needed. She has been suffering the past year from cancer of the stomach and several months she has been unable to leave her bed without assistance. She was long an earnest member of Good Templars, also of the Woman's Relief corps. She will be buried today by the W. R. C., the funeral occurring from her rooms at 3 p.m. by car to I. O. O. F. cemetery, and the I. O. G. T. is also expected to assist in the services. Her mother, three brothers and four sisters survive her, all living in Washington except a sister in Benton county.
