Mrs. McClendon was born December 14, 1935, in Louisville, Mississippi, and was the daughter of Daniel Webster Gwathney and Agnes Rebecca Cherry Gwathney. She lived in Gill for the past several years, was retired from General Industries and the Palestine Wheatley School District Cafeteria, and was a member of the Old Fashion Baptist Church in Palestine.
Mrs. McClendon married Charlie Rube McClendon in 1952, and he preceded her in death in 2015. She is survived by two sons; Robert Daniel McClendon, and wife, Carolyn, and Charlie Rube McClendon Jr., all of Palestine, two daughters; Tammy Jean Newton Adams of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, and Valerie Ann Parker, and husband, Kenny, of Palestine, three brothers; Donnie Gwathney of Beebe, Dale Gwathney of Heber Springs, and Roger Gwathney of Palestine, eleven grandchildren; Kimberly, Marty, Jennifer, Jared, Robert, Holly, Fallon, Christy, Garrett, Ryder, and Makayla, and twenty-two great-grandchildren. She had one daughter, Robbie Jean McClendon, one granddaughter, Kayla Rae McClendon, and one daughter-in-law, Brenda Holmes McClendon, all preceded her in death.
Services for Mrs. McClendon will be held at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 2:00 P.M., Monday, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery in Gill.
