DURAND , HAZEL E. (MOAN), 95, of Country Lane, Hope, a former Postmaster for the village of Hope, died peacefully at Riverview Nursing Home on Thursday, January 5th. She was the wife of the late Paul J. Durand .

Born and resided her whole life in the Hope section of Scituate, she was a daughter of the late Arthur E. and Millie (Pierce) Moan.

Hazel, 'Aunt Hay', was one of Rhode Island's first female Postmaster's who retired in 1970 after many years of service. She led a very full life enjoying her family, bowling, line dancing, and dining out with her special friends.

She was an avid knitter who shared her talents with both the young and old. She enjoyed many excursions through the years, but her favorite destination was Foxwoods. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Rosary and Alter Guild, the AARP, and other senior citizens organizations in Coventry and West Warwick, and a proud supporter of the Hope Jackson Fire Company.

She is survived by five generations of nieces and nephews including Arlene (Moan) Leyden, Marilyn (Moan) Maher, Marsha (Moan) Bettez, Catherine (Moan) Steere and Alfred (Zip) Moan all of Coventry, Harold J. Moan of Coventry, CT., Michael T. Moan of Middletown, CT., and David, Allen and James Durand , all of Hope. She was a sister of the late Harold A., Wallace G., Arthur E., and Alfred R. Moan and aunt of the late Arthur (Pat) Moan, Raymond and Gary Moan.

She adored and loved all her nieces, nephews and their children. She enjoyed spending time with them and spoiled them. In addition to her family, she leaves her life long friend for 93 years, Gladys Hutchins of Hope.

Her funeral will be held Monday at 9:45 am from the Robert A. Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. ( Rte 117 ) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 in SS Peter and Paul Church, Highland St., West Warwick. Burial will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Coventry. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 pm. Thanks to their great care and compassion, memorials to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 169 George St., Pawtucket, RI 02860 will be appreciated.
