He married first Jane "Jennie" Hayden on 12 June 1857 in Delaware County, Indiana. He married second Elizabeth "Lizzie" McDonald on 17 November 1874 in Randolph County, Indiana. Patrick is listed as a photographer in all the census reports as an adult. He is listed as a witness in some court cases in the 1850s, 1860s and 1880s in Delaware County, Indiana. Patrick was a brother to Calvin P. Dean, the great grandfather of actor James Dean.
