James 'Jim' Davidson

James Leroy Davidson, age 83, of Eagle Butte, SD passed away at the Ft. Meade Veterans Hospital on January 30, 2022. Jim was born March 7, 1938, to James and Edith (Wood) Davidson in Eagle Butte. He grew up there with his sisters: Bertha, Phyllis, Mary Ann, Patricia, and brothers: William, Donald, and Gerald. Jim graduated from Eagle Butte High School in 1957, honorably served in the United States Army from October of 1961 to October of 1963, and was a proud member of American Legion Post 308.

Jim was a friendly, hard-working, generous man. He was loved and respected by many people throughout his life. He has been called a lot of things: dad, grandpa, uncle, brother, friend, elder, khola, coworker, mentor, cohort, companion, boss.

Jim displayed a very strong work ethic. He worked for Stanley Johnson Concrete out of Rapid City for 10 year as a concrete finisher along side his brother, Jerry. After working for Stanley Johnson Concrete, Jim worked for R & S Construction of Rapid City for 11 years. While Jim was with R & S, he worked mainly on the Cheyenne River Sioux and Pine Ridge Indian Reservations. He was a concrete foreman and did concrete work mainly for housing, schools, and hospitals. He worked on the Cheyenne Eagle Butte High School in the mid-70s and the Eagle Butte Elementary School in the late 70s. Jim's nephews, Kenneth Simon, Jr. and Kevin Simon, worked with Jim at R & S Construction for a number of years in the late 70s and early 80s. Jim along with his brother, Jerry, taught Ken & Kevin the concrete business. In 1984, Jim moved back to Eagle Butte and started Davidson Concrete. He then worked for Aberle Construction of Eagle Butte for 25 years along side his dear friend, Pat Aberle. Jim was also a consultant for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Housing Authority. In his spare time, Jim tended bar at the Legion, in Eagle Butte.

Jim is survived by his children: Sabrina Davidson, and Robert (Jennifer Wilmot) Davidson; grandchildren: Colten Wilmot and Hayden Davidson; siblings: Phyllis O'Leary, Mary Ann Simon, and Donald (Judy) Davidson; nephews: Patrick Thomas (Karen) O'Leary, Jr., Edward O'Leary, Jason (Carmen) Simon, Kenneth (Juvy) Simon, Jr., Kevin Simon, Michael Simon, and Gerald (Stephanie) Davidson, Jr.; nieces: Marilyn Simon, Dixie Simon, Leslee (Joseph) Simon-Blum, Stephanie (David) Karlinski, Kaylene Simon, Tammy Davidson, Sherry Davidson, and Sheila Davidson; many great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Jim also shared his life with Betty Buffalo, Susan Drake Davidson, the late Cheri Gabe Davidson, Janell Davidson (Leashay, Leeann, and Damian), Jaimie DuBray (Mila), and Tamera Hale (Bubba, Jake, and Clarence).

He is proceeded in death by his parents, siblings: William Davidson, Bertha Spencer, Patricia Simon, and Gerald Davidson, Sr.; son Steven Roach; nephews: Richard Spencer, William O'Leary, Douglas O'Leary, and Scott O'Leary; nieces: Jeannie Percifield and Bonnie Stanley.

A memorial service will be held at Rooks Funeral Home in Eagle Butte, SD on Saturday, June 25, 2022.
